PROLOUGE
The events of the first half of the twentieth century, in particular the two world wars and the crimes of the Shoah, have led to the awareness that nationalism leads to new wars and consequently to new catastrophes, which only a united Europe, characterized by mutual respect, can guarantee a secure future for people.
The events that led to this awareness date back more than 75 years ago; there are almost no living witnesses left and in many cases this awareness of history is lacking, especially among young people.
Citizens of the European Union must develop an awareness of a common identity.
People identify not only with a nation, but also with their city and the region they are from. But they don’t only feel French, Italian and German, but also Marseilles and Alsatians, Munich and Bavarians, Sienese and Tuscans, why not feel like Europeans too?
Particular attention is paid to the generation that is growing up and that will determine the fate of the future Europe: our young people. They should internalize the objectives described above through the culture of memory, actions of solidarity, democratization processes to be lived and represented with confidence.
